VIDEOS: BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge

Videos

The idea is simple: a well-known artist does a cover of a chart-topping song and plays it live on the radio. From this concept some amazing covers have been created, as performers have been given the unique opportunity to do their own take on a chart hit. Cue genre-bending, intriguing and surprisingly clever performances from a whole spectrum of stars, from Miley Cyrus to The 1975. You want a reggae version of Lana Del Rey’s Summertime Sadness by Rizzle Kicks? It’s here. What about Tom Odell’s soulful tones warbling along to the originally sugary-sweet I Knew You Were Trouble? They’ve got it. Love Gabrielle Aplin but hate One Direction? Her version of Best Song Ever might just change your mind. Admittedly, these covers can sometimes be a bit hit-or-miss as the fusion of styles doesn’t always work. However, the Live Lounge gives you the chance to see your favourite artist experiment with a whole new style. The sessions are usually played live on BBC Radio 1 during the day, but if you miss it then the performance is uploaded to BBC Radio 1’s Youtube channel. Listen in and you may discover that your new favourite song is something completely different to what you expect.
